Report Card: Vision Board 2012
Last year, I created a 2012 Vision Board on Pinterest. I wanted to use pretty pictures to put my goals in writing for the world to see. Looking back, I can see that I have equally succeeded and failed on some of these. Let’s review:
- Be kind. Be gentle.
I find it quite incredible that this is the picture I chose for my first goal. And just a few months ago, I actually released a baby sea turtle (Donatello was MUCH smaller than this guy) into the sea. A Pinterst Premonition perhaps? I hope I was kind and gentle. It’s my every wish to be soft and warm and fuzzy with people. I’ll give myself an A. If you have any objections to this grade, speak now or forever hold your peace.
- It’s election year, after all. Stand up.
I am quite passionate about politics. I voted for Obama and am not the least bit ashamed to say so. But I will admit that I wasn’t nearly as focused this year on the election as I could have been. I did speak up for things I care about: gay rights (the Chik-Fil-A disaster) and gun control (Sandy Hook). So maybe I’ll give myself a solid B.
- Explore new cities.
I went to Napa and Miami for the first time. I can’t remember if I went anywhere else brand new so this will be a C. I can definitely do better than that. In fact….in less than 2 weeks I am going to Sedona for the first time!
- Love hard.
Yes. I did that. I do that. I’m doing that. A+.
- Write more.
B-. I have written more for The Sussy Project. But I haven’t kept up with this ol’ blog nearly as much as I should have. Mainly it’s because I slowed down my running this fall. Never fear – I can pull up that grade in 2013 easy peasy.
- New adventures with great friends.
When I see this one I immediately think back to what we call the “Night of Firsts” and “Day of Firsts.” A handful of some of my favorite friends and I decided to experience new adventures on both of these occasions. The NOF included a ghost tour, karaoke, dancing at a new bar, rooftop frozen meals and nighttime pictures by all the Indy monuments. The DOF included lunch at a great restaurant, Bocce Ball, playing pool at a scary townie bar (which also resulted in potential abduction and witnessing bar fights). Both days have more stories than this blog can contain. A.
- See more movies
Yes I saw lots! Even in the last month I have seen quite a handful. In-theatre favorites: Hunger Games & Life of Pi. What a favorite pasttime. A.
- Every day. Do this every day.
I don’t know how to grade myself on this one. I certainly wouldn’t say I did this successfully. So maybe a F? I mean….there is always more to do? Always more to care about. To seek. To find. To love. To conquer.
- Master the game of chess.
- Read more books.
Yes I read a lot of books. Certainly not the one-per-week like back in my hey day. But I read some good ones in 2012. Some favorites? Gone Girl (holy crazy). We Need to Talk About Kevin (very relevant). The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ (wow.) For more book ideas, check my book Pinterest board. A-.
- Find more time and reason to dance.
Well this is just silly. There is always a reason to dance. 2012 Meggie was silly for even adding this one. I think I just liked the picture.
- Go to Napa with my family.
- 2nd annual Vegas trip.
When I put this on my VB12 last year, I was referring to going with the people I traveled with last year. I didn’t do that. So Fail. BUT! I did go with my Perfect Strangers. So I say since there is no fine print, I’ll give myself an A. (I was a straight A student in school, can you tell? I really hate anything under an A)
- Crossfit – 3x a week
I did this pretty consistently the first 8 months of the year. Not so much the last few. So that’s a C. I am excited to get back to Crossfit this week. It’s hard to walk in that door but you feel like a complete badass when you walk out.
- Wear more sequins.
- Grow my hair longer.
Sure. It’s longer. Not this ^^^ long. But longer. A.
- Do yoga 2x a week.
- Become an Ultra Marathoner
- Weigh myself daily.
If “daily” means maybe 14 times this year, then yes I did that. F.
- Run 2 Marathons, at least one under a 4:11.
I ran 2 marathons! But my best time was only a 4:15:01. It was a PR and one I am very proud of, so let’s give a B on this one.
- Go back to my most magical place, London.
- The Sussy Project - bringing more smiles in 2012.
Hell yes. To the tune of 70+ people in 2012. A+.
Well….that’s it folks. Not a great GPA but more than anything, it shows how goals change over 12 months. I can’t wait to make 2013′s Vision Board this week. You’ll see some repeats from this last one, but also a few new goals. Recalibrating what’s important. Directing attention in different places. But the overall goals are the same:
Make myself better. Make things better for those around me. Live life.

Oh baby, your grading system. Puh-leeese. YOU….getting an F on “Seize the Day”??? Are you kidding me? If anyone gets an A++++ on that one, it is you. Who do you know that gets more out of 24 hours than you do? I mean it, name one. It can’t be done. And you forgot the adventure of running on country roads in WI in the dark by yourself hearing spooky noises. Raise that A to an A+. I think I’ll stop here and not even ask about that bar where you saw a fight and someone almost got abducted. Some things Moms should just not know. LOve you.
Haha. Thanks, Mom. I appreciate you fighting for my good grades
And yes, let’s not discuss the bar fights
W. Nuff said
Back atcha!
This is such a great idea. You’ve got a great energy towards your life. You should be SO PROUD of yourself.
Why thank you
Love this idea, Meggie, there’s something about putting a visual with it that really helps makes that connection. Like your Mom, I was going to mention the WI run. Hope that the new training plan is going well. Look forward to seeing your new 2013 goals. Happy New Year
