Marathon Training update
I am currently in week 12 of marathon training and the Chicago Marathon is one month and one day away. How did that happen?!
I can tell you that the past two weeks have been rough for training. My reasons are probably all excuses: I was traveling both weekends so had trouble getting a long run in and the heat has been oppressive. In the end, I just haven’t been all that committed to my training program for the past two weeks. I have still been running, and I know my speed is improving slowly, but I need more miles to give me confidence on race day.
With a month away and two very important long runs coming up, I can still get my head where it needs to be on October 13. I have no idea what my goal is right now. I’d know what I want it to be – a PR. But I don’t know that I have it in me. I do know, however, that for the first time in over a year, I am committed to giving it my all on marathon race day. There is no phoning it in this time. And after this weekend, I’ll have a better idea of where my ability actually stands. This Saturday is my first 20 miler in MONTHS. The weather will be cooler and I have a group of people all committed to getting in 20 that day to run alongside me. I will hydrate tomorrow and carb up. I will go to bed early. I will fuel during the run and take breaks (but not too many). And then 7 days later, I’ll do it again. (You see I missed my first 20 miler two weeks ago because I was at a music festival. So now have to do them back to back) These next two weekends are long runs that will make an impact come marathon day.
Wish me luck.
I promise to be better about updating this blog now that I have consistency to report. For now, I’ll sign off with some pics from the past weeks to prove that though I haven’t kept to my plan perfectly, I have still been putting in some work.
